Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery – celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from – it’s where you take them to.”

unfortunately we live within a tiny area of this earth’s land where originality and individuality are discouraged. it is the responsibility of people like us, who have an original thought every once in a while, to share that with others. as a creative person, i feel it’s my calling in life (besides eating and taking care of my children). or at least i made it my calling, why not (we have to fantasize in order to thrive in this country, and i pretend i’m an artist all the time)!
i signed onto botamba (LOVE the name and cosy up to the color purple) because a friend told me about it. it just affirmed my belief that people here are followers, borrowers rather leaders and creators. what attracted me to your blog is that it is not a hodgepodge of random borrowed posts from other blogs or websites. so it was fresh to stumble upon originality. first hand thoughts, first hand ideas and feelings.

Thanks Ghadah, life is just a struggle from time to time and we have to live through it.
