If you can’t trust the closest person to you ever… can you trust anyone?

That is my question, let me brief my story… I left my house in Amman, because I’m not going to be there for a period and I don’t want to pay rent for it since I won’t be there. So, I checked a couple of other options and then travelled outside the country and I asked a friend to look for other apartments, I have a specific budget and I asked for a studio, 1 room… as long as it is clean and has a toilet and a bed, then I’m fine. Complicated? No.

I found one, that will be free in two months, which is a perfect time for me because by then I’d be back. Not that fancy, furnished with 2 small beds, a TV with satellite service, a small toilet and an instant water heater for an affordable price. I took the landlord’s number and told him that I’ll pay him first payment once I’m back If It was empty.

My friend, calls me insisting that he found an apartment in his area, which is better than the previous one, services are close, easy to access… etc. He said it was clean and bigger than the studio I found because it has a living room and a bedroom, I said cool… go for it, ARE YOU SURE IT IS BETTER? he said yes, then called his dad, asked him to negotiate the rent with the landlord because the rent was too much for such a small apartment. I trusted his “judgement”, and kept asking for photos of the place, taken with anything even by mobile! But never got anything, because my friend is a lazy one.

I asked him a week back to take another friend to check on the apartment, a friend with a better taste just to be shocked, the apartment had broken windows taped with duct tape after filling the wholes with newspapers, the apartment is street-level where people can invade my privacy (and since the window is broken, there are chances of theft too). When you’re inside the house, it has a living room, to access the toilet you need to pass by the living room, kitchen then bedroom to find the toilet… imagine having guests over! Besides this, it needs to be repainted, It is also “furnished” but imagine, it has a table in the kitchen without a single chair to use… The kitchen only has a stove, I need to get everything else! like everything! The bedroom, instead of a double-bed, it is basically two small single beds combined together covered by a blanket and this apartment is separated from the one next door by a wooden-wall… Oh, and the rent is 90 JD extra, not including electricity, water or internet.

Not that too, but he already asked for money and paid an upfront payment to the landlord without a fucking contract! What the hell can I do? I’ll tell you what! When I come back, I’m staying in a fucking motel for the first 2 nights till I find an apartment because you’re not to be trusted, If you couldn’t look well and see the apartment with your eyes open then you probably are blind… and selfish (you know who you are, and you’re not my favorite person on earth now, at all)

Do you know why he liked it? Because it is closer to his house so he can’t hang out without worrying about transportation or being late outside his area… He got me into this for his own comfort… What a friend!

I say, don’t stress much ’till you get here and see it with ur own eyes because tastes my differ! Maybe that other friend of yours who’s got a better taste is “m2annaf”.
Maybe there’s more into this story than just selfishness and trust, maybe it’s because personalities differs as well, because you might have certain standards that ain’t the same as your friend.
Anyway, Everything should look clearer when you’re back to Amman, leave distant judgments behind.

Moey … Listen I guess that you got a clear picture of the studio, but I don’t see selfishness, cause maybe that friend of yours looked more and he thought that this could be convenient for both of you .. and it not as bad as you heard, well at some point you are right .. but everything can be fixed .. i think you were a bit harsh and judgemental cause you were probably angry right but this isn’t the end of the world as Sasha said .. once you get here it’ll be solved, c’mon big guy relax you don’t need to stress yourself .. in-fact all our houses are open for you whenever you want so don’t you worry about such silly thing, and i know that you have a warm place fr that friend of yours in that big heart of yours .. and you don’t really mean all that “least fav. person ”
so just come to Amman and don’t you worry like Sasha said… “leave distant judgments behind.”

I am sorry to say that, but I never trust anyone when it comes to such big desicions. I have learnt the hard way that most of the people in this part of the world have very strange criteria when it comes to choosing the place they live in. Having said that I would only add that I wish I was living there and I wouldn’t mind then having you living with me

Moey. Don’t ever agree to rent an apartment in Amman without seeing it first! I do a lot of apartment rentals for long-term international guests for the company I work for, and I have found out the hard way what kind of crap is out there. (And for future reference if you’re looking for an apartment, never trust anyone who puts too much emphasis on “super deluxe” rather than just showing you pictures or something.)
