The quote above comes out of many clients mouths, and they are the worse type of clients.
The type of clients I’m talking about here is the client that thinks he is a designer or he has design abilities. Most of us know this type of clients. It usually some rich guy’s daughter OR a guy who went to business school (most probably in Lebanon, or somewhere in Europe/USA… that’s the case in Jordan) because his parents forced him to do so since he ain’t good in anything, then he wanted to study arts but again, he was never good to be accepted to study an art major in the first place.
These guys absolutely love getting their hands on the layouts, soft and hard copies, just to mess around with , ugly-fying your work with their MS Paint edits over your long time work on Adobe softwares. Not that only, they also came back to you with specific directions and ask you to re-do the layout the way they want it and in a short period with no thought to how we are reacting to this.
I mean if you think that you are such a good Art Director why the fuck did you hire an agency for? Go to University of Jordan street, enter any printing store, and ask the guy who prints/finalizes work to do the job! Save some cash!
Don’t tell me you like the color of the sky to be green or that you want me to use a photo of your little nephew in the design because he’s cute just like kids you see in “American” commercials. Those things are not up to you, and you’re the only one that thinks his nephew is cute, he’s not photogenic! Next step, is him thinking he’s better than a qualified master holder copywriter saying he has a better copy.
I understand that most of the clients’ work is quite boring and uninteresting and fucking around with agencies creatives is the best thing you can do in a boring week/month, but it is not your job.
It is the creative director’s job to make us feel bad and ashamed to design such things and lead us the right way. Wannabe-Creative-Designers clients, you are the reason the creatives do not want to work on the account and you are the reason they can’t come up with good ideas. Why?
Because they know you will make those ideas turn into shit anyways. why bother?

True. Lazem yegeelak 7ad yetfalsaf shwaya! And not only those clients that think they can do a better job that you do, but also most of the other clients.
They have to suppress your creativity in some way, or have weird requests that ruin your work, they always have something to piss you off!
Thats why the best thing a creative designer usually designs is something for himself… Him, and only him, could allow his creativity to be unleashed!

Totally support ur rant! we all had these clients. And the sad thing is that their increasing, the more people are havin contact with design the more more they underestimate our work.
I dont even tell the “gaseer” (person who does finishing of the walls) how to do his job!

wala interesting subject, it’s not our problem (CD, AD’s and designers) it’s an account handlers problem, they should work hard with their client’s to solve it, otherwise CD and AD’s should kick their asses
and send the brief back if they couldn’t change that…

Actually if you’re freelancing your doing two jobs an account manager and designer. Usually the account manager takes all the shit and sweet talks the designer to obey. But in your case it’s truly difficult to see all your designs get ruined. You will be a mere implementer to their creations be it beautiful or ugly. Sadly that’s how the business is. Its more clients servicing than art creation these days.
