I seriously want to know who approved the Ad?
Orange does not charge internet users for plugging the hub or the modem anymore for DSL connections, the concept of the design for the offer, is basically a flat door with the flat’s number hanged. the number “7″ in Arabic is hanged on a door along with a “0″ to form the number “70″ and because the price is dropped to zero, the 7 is hanging down because someone unplugged it or wanted to remove it.
HOW THE HELL WOULD IT STICK IN THE MIDDLE AND FALL AS A 7 SHAPE NOT 8.
In Arabic, 7 is ٧ and 8 is ٨. Which is basically a rotated shape.
The Ad:
Common Sense:

can somebody from Y&R explain? by a phone call or something? how did the creative director approve this?
And that’s the right shape:

jazarah! » Don’t try to get smart if you believe that the audience is dump! added these pithy words on Feb 16 08 at 1:13 pmLOL! well basically ,he never thought of it! nonetheless its a good concept unless that mistake :S
HAHAHAHA LMAO i didn’t see that ad before! but it’s quite dumb enough to prove we got such great designers =P
but you know ..it’s supposed to be 7 ..and dropped so it would leave the zero alone.
so they should’ve dropped the whole 7! so they left the 7 in the design ..bas el 7mar mrakkebha ghalat![]()
Oh my.
That’s… funny. I’m lost for words.
What can I say? Typical of designers in the Middle East. Rush it and don’t think it through, as long as you get the job done. The concept is nice, but that’s just terrible. Nice find, Moey.
Some of these major companies need to find new designers. There’s plenty around, it’s just that none of them are recognized. Shame, isn’t it?
zero JDs they will pay for Y&R that’s for sure… unless it’s ment to be like this… hahahahha
I just hope they read this:
You know how to give another agency the FINGER yet you don’t even revise your ads before publishing them? You need to re-consider your jobs, all the ones involved…What frustrates me is the amount of istehbaal for the Jordanian readers…
Ah well, they wasted their money – the ad is tasteless and crappy too…
An unrelated note, 7 $ 8 & 9…etc are called Arabic numbers, and and ٥ ٦ ٨ ٩ are called Indian numbers and they’re the numbers we use in Jordan and Arab countries
7areega thats not the issue, they are indian and the english are the original arabic but now we call them arabic, whatever numbers they are. I’m talking design wise, beshakil man6iqi.
LOL! why don’t you contact them and ask? what if they removed manually and put it back that way (weird explanation but possible), some people don’t have the eye for the details like others, i guess that wanted to make sure that the concept is there without being attention to that mistake… tsk tsk tsk
Yeah, I noticed the ad yesterday. There was a guy installing it in one of the roadside billboards and I was thinking that he accidentally installed the 7 wrong (since it is a separate piece that hangs down from the billboard). But then I saw it on several other billboards and realized that either every single one was installed wrong or the design was flawed.
LOL man! I have noticed that. It’s hilarious
They are so dumb for not even following the basics. Who reviewed this stupid design? How come that a team produce such crap?!!!
Look if who ever did that is a young cute female designer, then she’s forgiven! People make mistakes, just let it go.
But if it’s one of those “guys” with piercing and uses Apple then they should be ashamed of themselves.
smart of you noticing this, I saw the ad and it disturbed me, but I did not know why!!now I do!
Good observations man! I must say you have a keen eye for details
!!
maybe it was meant to be 20.. then they changed the shadow in the last minute!

I totally agree with you Moey, actually I am willing to put this ad on my blog because it is really stupid ! Btw its so clear that this ad make no scenes visually beside I am really against the old wooden door,, who’s door is this ?

I wanted to post about it, but you were one step ahead, anyway I will post it tomorrow. My observation is don’t try to get “smart” if you think that the audience is dump! Obviously they thought it will look like an 8 if they hold it from the corner… anyway the image you called the “right thing is” is the way it should of been done.
I’ve noticed that from the first time i saw the ad and thought “moey will have a post regarding this”
it is pretty stupid, no common sense at all. i’ll be ashamed to do such a thing…
eashi be5zi ya zalame! sena3t el e3lan bel ordon mas5ara!
Odai, look this is what in Egypt you guys call ترياءة ( sarcasm)!
I hope you have a sense of humor, reread my comment and you’ll know what I’m talking about, if not, then…..I’m sorry that you didn’t get it.
Next time please double check and think twice.
Well moey, its not that first time Team Y&R proves to the public how well designed their ideas and ads are, not to mention the their classy style of dealing with competition “we all saw that” very classy and creative indeed.
But after all we all know how all BLUE BLOODED spoiled rich boys behave and act.
Actually I just came up with a new slogan for Team Y&R, it goes like this:
”am blue am rich… suck on it b*tch”And please people don’t generalize when you talk about lousy graphic design and advertising, we do have a lot of great minds and talents in this country.
Whooow!! Wassup, Moey?! Nice to be here.. and hey, I felt bad about Y&R.. Wished they did that on purpose ‘coz it’s really embarassing. Nways, more power dude!! Peace!
this is what happens when you hire cheap designers or when you dont pay the salaries, and to be honest el 7mar hon not the designer or even the creative director el 7mar hon the ATL leader and the Media leader who approved this stupid design those leader whoes hired some how!
yeah exactly, its freakin ORANGE, can’t they hire a decent designer to design their ads! They use a UK-based design firm for its ads in Egypt (branded as MobiNiL), and their ads there are simply great. Why can’t they do the same for the rest. Sometimes I just don’t understand how lame people can get.
PG… stop claiming creativity while you are not
Peter Sutherland the Creative Director at Team Y&R Amman, LOL… why don’t you explain it?
So how did Peter twist this around into a PG issue? I am happy to report that PG had nothing to do with this creative work.
Lol yeah this is crazy I noticed it as soon as I saw the ad but never bothered to talk about
To set the record straight, the comment above which has been attributed to me, was not posted by me. Guys, there is more than one Peter living and working in Amman!!!
..and by the way, re all your comments above..I appreciate the feedback. You are all right..this was a genuine mistake and I stand corrected.
In fact thinking about it the post that was supposed to be me makes no sense whatsoever.
Why would I try to infer that one of our ads for one of our major clients was done by another Agency? Everybody knows we have that account????
So….you have to ask yourself what kind of strange, twisted, sick minded person would post this?
There can only be one person in the world who would do such a thing.
I’ll let you all decide who that was.
A clue: his preplanned response was not long after.
Why you ask? It’s his bizzare way to embroil me into the debate.
In fact it wouldn’t surprise me if he wrote alot of the comments here under different names.
Sad case really.
So sorry Mr. Sutherland wasnt me, you can confirm that by checking what operating system I use written under my name, vs. the operating system used by the person who supposedly forged your name…. (20:36:38) on December 5th, 2007 using Safari 419.3 on Mac OS X … See how you always love to make accusations
Biteme,
See how you always lie?
You have repled with two different computers already on this blog.
(Internet Explorer 7.0 on Windows XP and Safari 419.3 on Mac OS X )
And did I say it was you who forged my email?
Guilty as charged.
See how you contracted yourself….”AND I DIDNT SAY IT WAY YOU WHO FORGED MY EMAIL” and then a return button later you go on to add “GUILTY AS CHARGED” whoopsi …
The only liar here on this blog and under all your aliases is you. Very weird how the timing of your blogs under different names supposedly from different locations yet with the same IP comes up while you dare to call people liars.
So Fred, Peter, Sutho, Creative Rules and all the aliases you use, go away.
FYI…one computer for me, sometimes use it in MAC sometimes I use it with Windows so nice try again…THE ONLY LIAR HERE AND ALL OTHER BLOGS IS YOU!
You’ve become so confused you’re not even coherent.
LOL
Not confused at all … very clear very coherent.
But let’s not change the subject of this blog and let’s take advantage of your presence with us…SO please tell us how you felt after spending the client’s money on this campaign, and making them invest in dye cuts on outdoor for the seven that was…as you admitted… a mistake?
I personally find it hiliarious that you all seem to have nothing else better to do than comment on such a trivial thing like this. I mean who cares about wether the number seven is hanging by the right nail or not??? It’s still a seven hanging off a piece of wood and the concept is still intact.
Seriously get a life.
Everyone gets the concept and based on the response it’s worked like gang b usters.
And that, my friends is all I care about.
So now (since it’s your work) you want to evaluate the success of the concept by the response…(if only you would listent to yourself on different blogs). For the record the people who care about it being hung properly are the people who speak the language…
smart moey!! u r clever..
i like ur way of thinking!!
but you can think in simple way.. why u think it is droped!! maybe some one stuck it from the bottom.. its a logic.. somebody want to remove the 7, so he stuck it down..
the ad works!!funny
