My Macbook Coughs Disks

473289418_bfd08d484b.jpg

My misery started on Wednesday, rain jinxed my life.

My macbook was soaked in water (although was in plastic protection cover), water was even stuck between the cover and laptop. I dried as soon as I reached home (took me an hour & 45 minutes to find a ride). I reached home sick, coughing, wet and blue. Dried my Macbook and since then my CD/DVD drive won’t read any kind of disks, instead it kicks them out, any kind even if you put the disk on the wrong side, either kicks it out or disk stays inside without moving and gets kicked out in 3 minutes (stopwatch helps).

I’m going to kill myself I swear! I’m going to iSystems tomorrow to check if they can fix it or replace the drive and how much will it cost. If not much I will replace it because I can’t wait until I go to Kuwait (which is not anytime soon, but I have a 1 year warranty).

Payment options:
either from my allowance or my monthly salary (coming after a month, I was just hired last week).

Let’s hope it is just stuck and will move once opened? ok.

Lesson learned:
buy a specialized laptop bag even if it costs a fortune, it might save you one too.

I always put my laptop in a bag. Plastic bag is not good enough man.

However, long ago I had a dell laptop and I spilled a cup of water on the keyboard.. I turned it off right away and removed the power instantly and took a blow dryer and dried it as much as I can. It didn’t work properly at all for a day or two. Then I left it. Within a week it started working just fine! :)

Warranty won’t do you any good in this case since the damage wasn’t from the factory but from water. You are actually lucky you still have a working MacBook. Next time your macbook gets wet the first thing you have to do is remove the battery. Then when you get home leave the macbook next to a sunny window for a few days so that it can dry out properly. Don’t use a hairdryer since it could melt fragile parts.

moey, i’d try putting it in a plastic bag with rice in it, and leave it for two days, should dry out all the water in it, rice should cover the whole laptop. I saw this once on metacafe, not sure if it really works.

Ouch. This gives a whole new meaning to the jingle; “rain, rain, go away; come again, another day…blah blah blah”.

I know how this feels; I once spilled an entire 2 litres Coke bottle over my HP laptop; don’t ask about the aftereffects.

My Dell PC was soaked in 7up once, and inr Red Bull in another incident, ot got a little sticky both times after it dried, but then became normal. So thats how we learn the important lesson of:
Never Buy a mac, always go for a PC, and it better be a Sony vaio or a Dell.

    Thank You.

you’ve just described my biggest fear.
it’s even creepier because i have the same laptop and often get caught in the rain. and am too cheap to buy a proper case.
