When: Sunday, Feb 25th 2007, 10:02am

Where: Nizar Qabbani Theater at Building A, Amman Al-Ahliyyeh University

Situation: Chaos, Students talking, smoking, eating, laughing everywhere, I’m laughing my ass off about some of my instructor’s so-called Hijab fashion (she looks exactly like the ones on MBC4 but with ugly colors, uglier) and my group finally found a good spot and sat.
Feeling: Weirdly happy, giggling all the time waiting for the guest to show up, finally! showed up. He’s Italian in his late 50’s, weirdly wearing this rounded pendant thing that you see rangers in Texas movies wearing around their necks instead of ties. Talking and introducing himself, in a heavy Italian English accent. While most of us (students) were laughing out, he talks exactly like Borat.

*I kept nagging since I got in and almost asked everyone for a bubble gum until Samia saved my life with a nimm2 (candy)*

I didn’t like any of his work honestly, It was just a bunch of crappy photoshopped photos basically and heavily edited with too much filters, I even thought that one of his photos was more like the cheap ass CD covers (for music collection CDs sold at downtown for half a dinar each). Well, thank god that lecture didn’t last for long (I overslept and almost flew to university to catch up a lecture to find it cancelled and replaced with this one.. bummer), after few minutes, he reached a part where he wants us to ask/discuss his work, I asked him a question that flipped him up and made him laugh hysterically on the microphone about the artificiality of the “blue” colors everywhere in his works, he replied: I know it’s artificial, I didn’t know that you’d notice hahaha!. What a stupid answer, eh?

Anyways, I was lucky to have his visit card signed with “good luck” and an invitation to the opening of the first symposium of Rowaq Al-Balqa and the 10th Symposium for European artists “River Dialogue”, under the patronage of Princess Rajwa Ali (written prince mistakenly on the card… GRRRR), this Monday at 5pm at Al-Rowaq Gallery – Fuhais.

The most funny part is that whenever we state our opinions (students in general) to our instructors about Fulvio Colangelo’s work they keep telling us that his work is way better than what he showed us here in the university, but they didn’t allow him to show us the rest because it’s all about nudity (as if we do not take art history courses which are full of nudity work and fertility icons)

Checking his website now, I’ve found nicer work, and things I like, Check his website located at www.colangelo.to

And as usual, I can’t post an article without adding a nice song to enjoy with it, I leave you with Kaiser Chiefs’ new single “Ruby”, It’s stuck in my head!

Tell me something mo, are they crazy these people who arrange events? They invite an artist that the only moment he goes beyond the uninspired aesthetics of Donut Factory wallpapers is in nudes (even there though…) and they do not allow nudity to be shown? For what they invite? For Hayat to book its grand rooms?

The song reminded me of myself when sometimes the inspiration comes to me while in the shower to “compose” a song. what a bad song you just posted!
