Okay being an American, the funny thing to me is that the first time I heard this (it was the banana version) was when I was 30 years old and I heard it from an Asian American. The second time (when I heard the twinkie version) it was also from an Asian American. I’ve never heard either expression from a fellow “white American”. Hmm…

I’ve lived in the US my entire life. The only times I’ve ever heard Asians referred to as twinkies were by other Asian-Americans. It is often used in a derogatory manner when they are perceived as “less Asian” than another Asian person. The same reasoning applies to “oreos”. Usually when a black man talks about another black man “acting white” he calls that man an “Uncle Tom” or a “House Nigger.” In the US if someone who is not black refers to a black man as either of these terms, he will more than likely get the shit kicked out of himself.
